For a time I kept seeing the same thing when I talked to small businesses. They had too many tools, not too few. Someone was manually copying leads from a form into a spreadsheet. Someone else was checking a Slack channel every hour just to forward messages along. It was not work it was just boring and repetitive and it took up a lot of time.

So I started building Pushable. The idea is simple - you tell it what you want done, in plain language, like you're explaining a task to a new coworker, and it sets up the routine and runs it on its own from then on. No workflow builder to learn, no code. It just plugs into the tools you already use — Gmail, Sheets, Drive, Slack - and handles the boring part.

Most agent frameworks I see are designed around the chat paradigm (user sends message, agent responds). But I'm more interested in agents that run autonomously in the background:

Monitoring systems and alerting when something's off

Processing queues of tasks without human prompting

Running on schedules (daily summaries, periodic checks, maintenance tasks)

Watching for events and reacting to them

The challenges are different from chat. How do you handle agent errors when nobody's watching? How do you set resource limits on something that runs indefinitely? How do you give visibility into what background agents are doing without drowning in noise? How do you stop a runaway agent that's burning through API credits at 3am?

Is anyone doing this in production? What does your architecture look like for autonomous/scheduled agent workloads?

I've been reading about AI agents for a while now and every time I go down the rabbit hole I end up with the same feeling: these things look impressive in a controlled demo and then fall apart the moment you try to apply them to a real workflow.

Most of the tutorials I've found on how to create an AI agent are either toy examples (summarize this PDF, answer questions about a CSV) or they're so abstract that I can't figure out how to map them to an actual business process. My team handles a pretty complex sales ops workflow with data spread across a CRM, a few internal tools, and some manual handoff steps that nobody has ever properly documented. The idea of an agent that could handle even part of that is appealing, but I'm genuinely skeptical that the tech is there yet outside of well-funded enterprise pilots.

Many AI PPT tools have a problem: they look flashy, but when you actually use them, they fall short by just a little bit...
